The Diesel Witch plays a key role in the history of Petromax: On an adventure trip with a Magirus Deutz, built in 1963, Jonas Taureck breaks down in the middle of the African desert. He needs to charge the vehicle's batteries. Instead of electricity, he finds the forgotten HK500 high-power lamp in a brightly lit desert village in Niger. This is the second hour of birth of Petromax: Jonas Taureck brings the brand rights and production back to Germany to renew the traditional brand.
Proven expedition vehicle
The Magirus Deutz truck was a popular expedition vehicle. It was tough, agile and roomy enough to take supplies on a multi-week tour. Jonas Taureck's vehicle still had an air-cooled Deutz four-stroke diesel engine for a tour across the African continent, much better suited than the modern water-cooled, much more heat-sensitive, diesel engines.
Attention to detail
The detailed model makes collectors' hearts beat faster. The miniature version of the "diesel witch" is a cabover, the wipers are part of the body and the front fenders are equipped with dipsticks. Running boards, headlights, door handles, mouldings, a large roof rack and a spare wheel - all like the full size original vehicle. Even the number plate matches: The "MD" stands for Magdeburg, the location of the Petromax company.
For the 100th birthday of the HK500 high-power lamp, Petromax is releasing the legendary "Diesel Witch" as a 1:43 scale model car. The special model with the characteristic dragon logo and stylized images of the HK500 is unique and limited.
